Fee Structure

The following schedule of fees applies to professional engineering services provided through Engineering Investigation, LLC.

I am licensed as a Professional Engineer in both electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Many of the matters I am retained on require analysis in both disciplines, and I practice in either as the investigation requires, with no change to the billed hourly rate.

The rates below apply to all engineering work and to testimony given as a consultant or expert witness.

Professional Service

  • Investigation matters pertaining to Mechanical Engineering – $375/hour
  • Investigation matters pertaining to Electrical Engineering – $375/hour
  • Preparation for deposition & trial & mediation & arbitration – $375/hour
  • Deposition and court room testimony – $500/hour
    (Deposition and courtroom testimoney are billed at a four-hour minimum per appearance)

Travel Hours

Travel is arranged to hold cost to a minimum while meeting the schedule a matter requires. Commercial airfare and lodging are billed at cost, with no markup. Vehicle travel is billed at $0.85 per mile.

Meals are never billed to the client. All other travel-related expenses, such as rental car, tolls, and parking, are billed at cost.

Lab Fees/Additional Experts

Laboratory fees not included in the initial investigation budget are billed at cost as a separate expense. A written budget is provided before any such work is undertaken, and nothing proceeds without your approval.

If the investigation indicates that a chemist, metallurgist, or other specialist is needed, you will be notified promptly and given a description of the proposed scope of work together with an estimate of the associated fees. That work begins only after you authorize it.

Photography

Digital images will be taken during the investigation at no extra charge per image. The images will be recorded in high resolution .jpg format and uploaded in original format to mirrored cloud storage systems for archiving. All images utilized in an Engineering Report are included in the cost of the preparation of the report with no additional charge.

Companion Matters

Deposition and litigation services or expenses incurred by any employee of Engineering Investigation, LLC, or by any independent contractor engaged by Engineering Investigation, LLC, arising out of this matter or any companion matter, are invoiced at the rates set forth above. A companion matter is any legal proceeding, civil or criminal, that arises out of the same occurrence Engineering Investigation, LLC is investigating on your behalf and in which Engineering Investigation, LLC is not a party.
